VALLIE WALKER

January 20, 1936 - May 31, 2024

Vallie Walker, 88 passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 in her sleep, at Park Crescent Rehabilitation, Health Care Facility & Nursing Home, East Orange New Jersey. 

Preceding her in death were her husbands, Jesse Walker Jr., Yusef Shakoor, sons Jesse Walker III, Daniel Walker, Kevin Walker, Lamont Walker and daughter, Theresa Walker. 

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Walker, Roslyn Brown, Janine Walker, son, Ibn Rashad Shakoor, sister Patricia Humphrey, several grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces, nephews, aunt and other relatives. 

Vallie was born in Blakely, Georgia to Leroy and Lillie Humphrey who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Leroy Humphrey Jr. and Alfred Humphrey.

Her educational background was pertinent to the Social Sciences, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree at Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey. 

During her working years she worked in the social field over 20 years as manager of several Group homes including St. Timothy's Group Home and Project B.A.B.I.E.S. 

Vallie's passion was cooking, reading and growing plants. 

Her Janaazah (funeral) took place on June 6, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at The Islamic Burial Services, 179 Roseville Ave. Newark, New Jersey.

Interment - Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside New Jersey.
